Planning and Design

Decades of design training and experience enhance our planning, from feng shui and traditional Japanese gardens, to a more traditional or English approach using the bamboo as a border or hedge.

Planting

Our love for bamboo and respect for the life energies it expresses show in the care and expertise we bring to the planting phase of your bamboo project.

Containment

Containment is not advised and maintenance is encouraged.

Staking

Yes, see above. Heavy rains, snow, wind, and other types of conditions can bring bamboo to the ground. Many people tie it up. We prefer to stake it and we have the tools and supplies. We also stake new plantings for a few months until the root system develops enough to support the plants.

Thinning & Pruning

This is one of the most important and most negelcted aspect of bamboo maintenance.

One of the ways to "contain" bamboo is to keep it very happy where you want it. Thinning the grove allows for light to penetrate the canopy, enables new growth to sprout within the grove, and keeps mite and other pest problems to a minimum.

Bamboo rhizomes expend energy to push new shoots up through the earth to access sunlight for photosynthesis. If the bamboo grove is overcrowded the rhizomes will expend energy to find new territory, meaning they will "run" to new areas of your garden, under concrete and asphalt, onto neighboring properties.

You can help make your grove happy where it is and feed the Woodland Park Zoo elephants!

Bellevue Bamboo is providing the thinnings from your Bellevue bamboo groves for the zoo's elephant feeding program. The thinning of your grove can give it the space it needs to propagate without invading your and your neighbor's property and feed the elephants!

All of your clean and pesticide free bamboo thinnings and prunings will be delivered to the zoo throughout this spring and summer.

Bamboo Removal

When part or all of your grove has to be removed, the respect we have for bamboo encourages us to remove it and transplant it or pot it and save as much as possible. We have the tools, the energy, and the time and we often trade a portion of our service for healthy plants.

We give free estimates and give a firm bid for all these services.

We also provide fee based consultations where that is necessary.

We will also bid on clean up and removal of all debris, and can leave you with cleaned canes for any project you might need them for.
